Ed, Re-installed fontconfig; it still segfaults on Type1 fonts. Tomorrow morning I'll again restore a Type1/ directory from the backup drive. I suspect that some web sites use a Type1 font and it's borked on my system. I wonder if there are Type1 fonts available for free downloading. I'll check that tomorrow morning, too.
