Hello,

I'm setting up a dual cpu server using Mandrake 7.1 I'm trying out
compiling kernels and testing out the smp kernels as well.

When i try to boot using the smp kernel, I get an error:

kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k block-major-8, errno =2
VFS: Cannot open root device 08:05
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:05

I can boot the secure-kernel (2.2.15-4mdksecure) that came with the default
install ok. Then I downloaded and upgraded the secure kernel
(2.2.16-9mkdsecure) and now I'm also getting the same error.

What am I missing?

  ---8< --- /etc/lilo.conf  ------

# Add by install-kernel
image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.2.16-9mdksecure
        label=mdksecure
        root=/dev/sda5
        read-only
        optional

  --8< -------------

Thanks.

Take care and God bless.

William
