agree. amen. grass roots i really the key. but, i forsee that
secretary/senator roco would say that "who would train them?" i fear that
they may even be a shortage of people who could train the faculty for
linux. there are some schools like the ateneo would already have public
school programs for teachers in bio, physics, chem and math. why not add
a computer science thing and focus on computer science concepts while
teaching them with linux.
is there are CHED-COE for CS? if so, the CHED-COE CS grantees must place
open source in their courseware because they are teaching these public
school teachers. i would be good if we could start from here. if CHED is
will to grant the ateneo, i think school will be happy to teach open
source and comp sci to these teachers.
also as members of PLUG, most of us have real life work. however, it would
be good kung may outreach program tayo or something. however, i feel that
is very hard to mobilize a behemoth such as plug. i can mobilize
ce-gnu-lug for this. however, plug seems to be very difficult. a program
like "open source awareness sessions for public school teachers" and
"using open source for teaching". most PLUG members maybe unable to teach
but i am sure you guys can help develop modules, exercises, courseware and
the like.
next. knowing the government they will try this out with the science high
schools first. however, i most for something more radical and make it all
government high schools with CS curricula. (there are a number of these)
a pilot can be done in metro manila or somewhere with a big open source
movement. the pilot school must not be science high school for the very
reason that science high school are too spoiled na. get a regular memorial
high school somewhere out there and try it out.

tsismis == Fear Uncertainty and Deception (FUD). it is the goal as
advocates to rid the world of FUD and not add to it. therefore, it is
important not to give blank statements...linux is just better because this
will just add to the FUD.

well, i am not advocating for the erradication of all other solutions
immedietely. i believe that the world deserves good software and that what
ever works best must be used. however, i hate companies that market
expensive and non-performing products which bashing others. this is
predatory tactics and is just evil.
