me, i just stick to what i learned first (combination of gui and command).
but lately i found out that i can still use the server even if hte xwindows
crashes. i am now starting to learn the command prompt configuration.

For me it is not in your choice of flavor. I use Redhat 6.2 here are the
office, and at home I use RH 5.2 and FreeBSD 3.1 (I know they are old, but
hey they suit my P133 fine =)). Just be sure to not rely too much on those
GUI tools. I am not telling you to trash them altogether. It just better
to
know how something works even without the GUI. So just be good in learning
Linux in general.
