By all means please use the other distributions...
I would suggest using Mandrake or Suse. Linux
(and Open Source) is about freedom to choose...

But for a really good FREE ONLINE Slackware Linux book:

  Slackware Linux Essentials: http://www.slackware.com/book/ (HTML)

But why should you stay with Slackware. Here are some of my
personal reasons...

1. Kernel 2.4 compiles clean (of course some utilities need to
be recompiled to handle the new file system(s) and large file
support)
2. SPARC and ALPHA versions available.
3. You can download a current version of Slackware and
make an installer. You don't have to wait for the next official
   version to be released.

Slackware is not perfect, wish it had the Debian style of
auto-package update and the RedHat/Mandrake GUI installer and GUI
tools.
But it's the only distro I know that forces you to open the
hood and see what's happening inside. Your choice.....

Hoping to make your Linux experience a more
pleasant one....

A Slackware Fan since 1994
