Yes. it is stable. I'm using Mandrake 8.1 with KDE 2.2 objprelink version
for about a month now with no problems. The optimizations were
superbly built-in by Texstar. I've tried Red Hat 7.3 yesterday on my
friend's box with KDE 3.0. It's amazing how light and stable 3.0 performs
with objprelink.

IMHO, the stability question pertains to porting KDE 2.2 apps to 3.0. Not
all programs have been ported, and I've heard a lot of problems with
Mandrake 8.2 dual-logging in KDE 2.2 and 3.0. Red Hat's KDE 3.0 has no
problem as far as I've experience.

I really recommend the RPMs built by Texstar. It's kinda weird but these
are sometimes built more stable and superior than the ones done by
Mandrake. I've tried plenty of his RPMs, and I particularly like Mosfet's
Liquid theme RPM built for Mandrake 8.1. His freetype RPMs are likewise
gorgeous. Everyone thought I was bluffing. Yes, I use Mosfet's Liquid
theme on my KDE 2.2. He said I don't have to wait for KDE 3.0 to have
Liquid on my machine, so off he went to his labs and came back with
RPMs. All for free. Wow.

Mandrake 8.1, with KDE 2.2 objprelink version, with Mosfet Liquid theme,
and Everaldo's Connectiva icons is a reality on my desktop. I'm proud to
show that a stable desktop need not look ugly and move slowly. Envious
friends like the speed jump of 2.2 objprelink version compared to the
stock 2.2 on 8.1. My desktop sure moves cool and professional. People
thought I have a Mac until I showed them a one-year-old beat-up AMD-
K6-500mhz. I don't have to pay an arm or a leg for Windows XP or an
iMac. Linux is an OS I can bet my life on for stability, customizability, and
ease-of-use given the right tools, documentation, desktop environment,
and friendly people like the PLUG. Minus the viruses, minus the pesky
and bloated Microsoft software prices. The only reason I'm in windows
now is games (slowly moving them to my Linux box. I enjoy Unreal
Tournament and Quake 3 Arena on my box so much kahit software
mode lang.) and Internet access (I have a winmodem, no spare bucks
for an external thing yet.).

Screenshots? I have plenty. Just request me if you like.

It's a pity that Mandrake never officially supports his RPMs. Where
Mandrake leaves me, Texstar is there to help with his RPMs.

For SUSE and RedHat users, don't feel envious. His RPMs (including
SRPMs) and are there to download and install to your heart's delight. No
haranguing monthly subscription fees, all for free and for everyone's
enjoyment. What's more, some of these RPMs are optimized for Athlon
processors. Plenty of new builds, Mozilla 1.0, Galeon, Gaim, etc..Even
Mosfet himself is amazed at his speed in producing cutting-edge RPMs in
a short notice.

What's the catch? Wala lang! (say with Sing-Alis intonation). Building
superior RPMs is his own way of contributing to the open-source
community. Galing-galing talaga.

I can't wait until I get his RPMs on my 8.2.

The download links are on his site at

Please donate if you like his kewl builds and have spare cash. Tulungan
naman natin, kahit papaano.

Regards,

Mikol

PS. By the way Marvin, any problems with 8.2's supermount in an LTSP
set-up?
