I think it won't be smaller in the near future ;(

If you really have a less-endowed setup, you could always adjust by selecting
smaller alternatives that do the job also (ie. Opera or Galeon [just don't
run Mozilla] for web browsing; don't go for GNOME or KDE bloat; go for Abiword
and Gnumeric instead of OOo 1.0 for your desktop suite). For my less endowed
boxes I use Blackbox as my window manager, abiword and gnumeric for the apps,
and opera for a web browser (though there's dillo, but I'm already happy with
opera ;) These less endowed machines are Pentium 120MHz with 16MB of RAM too...
The only hassle is updating, upgrading, installing or uninstalling packages
(as these workhorses run on Debian Woody), wherein the slowdown means I need
to watch 30 minutes of anime before it ends ;) But for most usage (like surfing
the net, chatting, sending mail, typing company reports) it has been running in
an acceptable speed (faster than Win95 since the fat has been sucked out).

Of course, you can always go for upgrading thine hardware. Not a bad idea...
but sometimes unacceptable (either you can't just dump the hardware, like me,
or you don't have the budget, again like me ;) he he he...
