When building xine-0.9.12, you need/can include support
for em8300/dxr3, even if you do not have the hardware.
The configure script will look for this library and include
support if the library is present.

I discovered that xine-0.9.12 does not include DeCSS and so
is not region-free. I also discovered that my DVD drive can
not play Region 3 DVDs, so most probably it is a Region 1 player.

So I downloaded DeCSS (css-auth.tar.gz), built it on my system
and tried if it can read the Region 3 disk key on "The Patriot".
It failed.

Like you, I am still looking for a solution to region-free
DVD playing on my Linux box.
