hmmn, i guess i would settle for the fdisk+partimage+samba combination unless somebody can point me to an app that does what fdisk+partimage can do. the compression is also a factor since we dont have that much resources to spare.
Gnu parted perhaps? It can resize, move, copy partitions.
isnt qtparted the same as this (except for the QT frontend of course)? i tried tinkering with the version on knoppix3.3 but i cant make make a backup of the existing partitions.
