Well yeah I used that too!  :D

Had to move to fvwm2 to use that.. I can remember in order for it to look 
good I have to be running at 1024x768 but my poor 14" monitor could only 
do 1024x768 43.5Hz (87Hz interlaced).  8P  horrible on the eyes..

Nowadays if you want to write an X-based application there's so much extra 
bloat: gnome, bonobo, gtk2, xft... back then it was just Xlib.  :P
