Hey Andy, Call me a GNOME zealot but I always suspected that KDE was somehow, SLOWER than GNOME/Gtk. I could never shake the feeling, although I never could quantify it, KDE on the same box always felt a tad more sluggish than GNOME. Maybe it's their wretched "kicker" or what-not. I don't know, but my trials/tribulations with KDE never lasted more than a day or two. Always went back to GNOME. I just keep a minimal KDE around for the great application KStars, but other than that I use GNOME all the time. > I noticed on my PIII-400Mhz Slackware machine, WindowMaker itself is > very very responsive, but Mozilla 1.5 (or was it 1.6) is dog-slow. Well Mozilla has always been slow. Do you have Gdk-Xft2 Mozilla? (BTW it always boggles the mind when I see people with non-antialiased Mozilla.. ick. Ugly fonts.) > As Mozilla 1.6 performance under Windows XP is adequate on my Athlon > 2400XP, I really should be installing Slackware on the same machine > and comparing it there to be fair. Heck it's adequate on my ancient 800MHz box. On both Win2k and Linux. .. > It is so disappointing to hear of a *nix desktop regressing to the > quality of a Win 9x one. I don't believe it. That sort of behavior is probably on a sub-500MHz box with 64MB or 128MB of RAM. Even Win2k is kind of crawling on my girlfriend's 1.4GHz P4 with only 128MB of RAM. --- Orlando Andico <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mosaic Communications, Inc. -- Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List [EMAIL PROTECTED] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Official Website: http://plug.linux.org.ph Searchable Archives: http://marc.free.net.ph .
