Xfce can be a bit cranky with special keys. KDE is pretty smart in

just setting the PA
panel plugin gets the volume keys working in Xfce on my T510.
You can try:
1. make sure "thinkpad_acpi" module is loaded
lsmod shows thinkpad_acpi is loaded.
2. Xfce IBM thinkpad keyboard layouts - one might be a better match
Not sure what this means.
3. check out this to map keys:
http://slackbuilds.org/repository/14.2/system/xbindkeys/
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xbindkeys
This one doesn't seem to have a slackbuilds script. There is a README
that says I should run configure --help. But when I tried that I got an
error:
-su: configure: command not found
I was hoping this would be a quick thing this morning, but it looks like
it will be a bit more involved, so it will have to wait until work is done.
