I probably haven't figured out how to ask this question of the search engines. From time to time a grayed out icon shows up on my Xubuntu 18.04 desktop. Sometimes it's labeled 4.1 Kb volume. Tonight I have one just labeled Volume. Right clicking on them offers to "Open" or "Mount volume". Trying either results in an error message,

    Mount Failed
    Failed to mount "Volume"
The given volume was not found

They don't appear to cause any trouble other than cluttering up the desktop.

Does anybody have an idea of what these are, and how to get rid of them short of a reboot?
