I'm downsizing my personal library, and sending a pallet
or three of boxed books (also tapes and LPs) to the
Internet Archive's Digital Library. Their job will be
easier if I provide barcodes/ISBNs for the items in
each box.

I hope to purchase a handheld, USB-connected bar code
reader that works well with Ubuntu LTS on a laptop,
resulting in a list of bar codes in some appropriate
format (Openoffice spreadsheet?).

Suggestions for device and open-source software?
I'll pay extra for ease of use and reduced hassle.

Keith

P.S. I'm transitioning away from Scientific Linux and
CentOS/Redhat. Mate-Ubuntu has been the least bad of
many candidates so far, for other reasons too complex
to describe here. So please, no "use my favorite
distro instead" suggestions.
