How about your blkid output?

Russell,

I was just about to post this. After reading the mount man page I used
'blkid -o +UUID,PARTUUID' which shows two different outputs:

blkid:
/dev/sda2: UUID="eedc4a56-0423-4dc2-bbf0-9264c46ee116" TYPE="swap"
PARTUUID="4e5f3609-4188-42f9-afd1-f1b16587301e"
/dev/sda3: UUID="d37d9965-93a6-4319-bd1d-f426f7f25f89" BLOCK_SIZE="4096" TYPE="ext4"
PARTUUID="57e5c179-2b96-49d0-ba97-3508d938aafe"
/dev/sda1: UUID="16dec5ca-f5d4-4cd0-ada2-d821643c62d3" BLOCK_SIZE="4096" TYPE="ext4"
PARTUUID="81e4347c-6333-4fe4-82fc-663307e12811"
/dev/sdb: UUID="9CB0-0E6C" BLOCK_SIZE="512" TYPE="vfat"
(the last one is a thumb drive used to copy files from the ThinkPad to the
desktop)

blkid -o +UUID,PARTUUID:
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINTS UUID

sdb      8:16   1   3.9G  0 disk /mnt/hd     9CB0-0E6C

The PARTUUIDs differ. Using the options shows the disk UUID as the PARTUUID.
Why's that?
