I can't find anything like that.

Looking at the screenshots on http://www.ewesoft.com/ I'd say it's that button left to the drop down indicating "My Documents". It's the button with that little tool on it :-)

Here's another little thing: if I start Slimremote while slimserver is
inaccessible (usually because I haven't turned on networking on the
pda) then we go to the settings screen (which is obviously correct) ...
but if I want to say "oh, forget it, I don't mean that" then pressing
the "ok" button (top right) just causes slimremote to restart and go
back to the same screen. This goes on forever until you realise that
"Cancel" will cause it to close.

"Ok" top right is the same as "Ok" bottom right, I guess? Or this is a multiplatform issue: that top right Ok button does not exist on the platforms I've been using so far. I don't know what it does by default... But you're right. Only the "Cancel" button will get you out of that loop.
