There was a bug in volume management when "trigger" was selected ...
it's a complicated thing. The following parameters are needed to fine
tune behavior: <volume_mode> (Mode), <player_volume> (Default),
<volume_trigger> (Trigger), <volume_feedback> (Feedback)

• <volume_mode> (2) : defines if LMS volume commands shall be ignored
(0), translated to AirPlay commands (2 = hardware) or gain shall be
apply on samples (1= software)
• <player_volume> (-1) : volume that is set when a track starts and no
LMS volume command has been received yet. When <volume_mode> is set to
hardware, this value is used only once as obviously further LMS volume
commands will be received. Set to -1 so that this value is ignored (only
actual LMS volume commands, if allowed, will be used)
• <volume_trigger> (0) : wait for the AirPlay device to send it's volume
status before issuing the first volume command. Some players need that
otherwise they ignore volume commands. When <volume_mode> is software or
ignore, the <player_volume> value will be sent (again) upon reception of
player's status
• <volume_feedback> (1) : when a volume change is made directly on the
AirPlay player (using its remote), this allows such change to be
forwarded to LMS. When <volume_mode> is set to software, feedback is
ignored as it would not make any sense.

I wish there was a universal set of parameters, but I did not find any.
In most of the cases, the default work, but obviously not always
