If you don't want to include cover art where the artist image lookup fails what about writing a "trumpeter" image each time it fails but with the image file name as LMS would write it if it had successfully found an image.
That then would prevent a later lookup from trying to find something online - which might have become available in the mean time.
This would then tell people what the image "should" be called and allow them to replace the default trumpeter for that artist with an image of their choice.
