Could the SHA1 mismatch be the reason why the applet installation fails?
That's pretty much what the message says. And that's what these checksums are for: prevent installation of a file which might have been manipulated.
That said, it's not clear whether the owner has forgotten to update the checksum in the repository file last time he updated the archive or what else is the reason for the failure.
