I did comment before that I can only see a real use case on Android devices. If you are using Material on a PC whatever OS then the likelihood is that you have full access to the file store anyway. Someone then said what about when you are accessing remotely via PC but I dont see why you wouldnt still have access to the file store as youd be using a VPN or should be. On that basis I think the value of being able to download is limited to Android devices only. Just my 2p.
