And for that, I continue to be grateful!! While unsatisfying from a troubleshooting angle, i just setup a new vm with Ubuntu 20.04 and LMS 8.2.1 and happy to report SDT is working like a champ. Now, to migrate all my settings. Thanks for the push over the edge to update! Would you mind sharing (separately so as to not clutter this thread) how you use the PI and Display?
