I would imagine that the internal DAC in an M1 Macbook is OK but I would
also imagine that you will see (hear) an improvement with a decent USB
DAC such as the Dragonfly. It should work with a Macbook with a suitable
adaptor but again I'd say take the Macbook, adaptor and headphones to
Richer Sounds to make sure. There are cheaper USB DACs available but the
Dragonfly is very highly rated in Audiophile circles.
