Having 100 twenty year old rips and another 100 unripped classical CDs to sort into a usable library in the last two weeks I applied force majeure. As I adjusted the tagging I made sure most album titles started with the composer's name. Some random compilations have names I remember like "Awake the trumpets' lofty sound" and I left those alone. "South Pacific" and "Oklahoma" speak for themselves. Genre tagging is all over the place. Most albums are tagged "classical" even if they are baroque, chamber, choral, romantic or musical - but I don't care. I have a "card index box" I can quickly flip through. I did try correctly to tag Christmas carols, and succeeded; but decided it was too much effort to move from displaying Albums to Genres, so I added "Xmas:" to the album name of my 20 Carol CDs. I then had a few funnies like a HiFi News test CD from 30 odd years ago. I stuck "Xtra:" on the front of that and the other funnies. I now have a main catalogue that is rationally indexed with the Christmas Carols at the end and Xtras to bring up the rear. (Xtra indexes after Xmas!) Works for me - life's too short! I guess it would not work if I had 1000 albums!
