The mount command results don't appear to change before/after. 
However, when I do turn on the ext. drive it displays some information
about it and references SCSI and sg1.  It isn't a SCSI drive, though -
it is a 750gb 3.5" IDE drive formatted in NTFS.  The enclosure claims
to support Windows and Mac, but doesn't list linux.  ".../g1" doesn't
appear to work.
