OK, I believe I have found the problem. Prior to August 1st, it was possible to "intercept" or "wrap" IR button commands pretty easily -- SC executed an 'ir' CLI command when a button was pressed. Now SC/SBS handles these button presses completely internally. All a 3rd party plugin can do now in 7.4 is ask the server to let it know after the button has been pressed, by which time it's too late for the plugin to take any action.
I've opened a bug on this issue, https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14007, and at this point I don't expect to spend time trying to work around the change in SC/SBS.
