There is already a ticket for this and the next release will likely
have it's own "Screen Saver" that shows a separate screen, motion sensor
included.

However, turning off the screen is likely not possible. That's at least
what the Apple guys at the iPhone Tech Talk told me yesterday.
Bug filed, let's see what comes out of this.

Sorry, I don't fully understand what you want to do? The Squeezebox
does support mp3tunes but not soptify (which is, as I understand, due to
a lack of an Spotify API), is your suggestion to stream from the ipod?
If yes, that will be hard and give you a very, very short battery life.
