small update; removed and reinstalled the plugin in the plugins directory of the SC webinterface. unchecked direct update- the instructions are counter-intuitive, but it appears to say that if you're running on a non-windows OS (ie, OSX) to set direct update to "off"; not clear if this means direct update is not supported.
