That's reasonable. Could I then suggest that you break out 'artist local
artwork' into its own plugin? Maybe include that plugin with the server
(disabled or enabled, doesn't really matter). By the same logic behind
wanting to keep the server lean, you probably don't want plugins that do
10 different things. I think this would be some nice functionality, but
I have no need for the remote retrieval of info or images.

I don't think it's that big of a problem. The simplest would be to just
remove illegal characters. It is, however, complicated by different file
systems and the different rules for characters that are allowed.

I don't see how a single artist.jpg file in a folder could work, due to
the possibility of having ALBUMARTIST, ARTIST and COMPOSER tags in
files. And for compilation albums, where ARTISTs are different, the only
option becomes the use of embedded images.
