I have in the past managed to get gapless play on some devices that don't otherwise support it using a slightly convoluted method. Using foobar2000 as a server with its upnp plugin, it can stream what it is playing (playback stream capture) via upnp. Whatever it is playing it will stream without any gaps. You could use squeeze2upnp to send the tracks to foobar2000 (as a renderer) to play there, but ignore the sound playing from foobar2000 (send it to a null device of some sort) and redirect the 'playback stream capture' to your device. Whether you can get that stream to play in chromecast I don't know.
