Cute. Jaak's remarks were about the book, and I suspect his sentiments in
general are not much different from my own, about book and animals. See
below, but first understand that psychological ethics require us to stand
fully behind the contents of any research paper, including the rationale
for performing the experiment, the methods, the data analysis, and the
interpretation (welcome to graduate science lesson # 1 in psychology). I
know Panksepp, and he's no antivisectionist. But then, maybe if we all
wish real hard and respect the will of nature and feel things as deeply as
we can, our babies won't get sick and won't need that nasty biobehavioral
research any more. You think? Being a progressive does not require giving
up facts in favor of feelings.
