Sorry, I should have clarified - not everyone would be given commit privileges. 
People can fork their own copy of the PoDoFo source code and make modifications 
on their fork - much like they can now, only with better support for 
reintegration and merging.

How pull requests work is that people who have made changes on their fork can 
send the owner of the main branch a request to integrate their changes. The 
owner (or committers) sees a list of these pull requests and can merge the ones 
they like into the master branch with the click of a button, if they so desire.

There's also associated discussion, so if a pull request has errors or doesn't 
meet quality guidelines, you can let the sender know about that.

Basically, it would mean less manual labour for Dom and you, since patches 
which come in the form of pull requests would be much easier to integrate than 
they are now.
