I get what you are sayng gthiest...but IMO when you murder 5 police officers and when holed up surrounded admit that you want to kill white and especially white police officers...and refuse to put down your weapon ....this is a precise way of achieving an end to the standoff without harming others.
Some people are not worthy of the constitutional protections. I'm sorry...but I also don't want them living a life of 3 squares and cot on taxpayers dimes. They opted out when they went on a killing spree. If we actually used the death penalty for people like this...maybe I'd have a different outlook. But the cost to citizens to have trial for an obviously guilty murderer is too much. Again..he chose to opt out .
