Hey Keith. He WAS a very reasonable democrat for a lot of years - which is why I voted for him twice for governor and twice for US Senator. By the time he was in his second term in Washington, though, it became quite clear that he'd succumbed to the Washington way - fall in line with whatever party that letter behind your name said you belong to.
The 96% vote with Obama. The vote for Obamacare - when he KNEW the overwhelming majority of people in this state staunchly opposed it. And then filibustering Bush's SC nominees. Stumping with Hillary Clinton on multiple occasions was the final straw. And now this crap with not even knowing his address here. He is the classic example of how even reasonable people can go to Washington and become useless and completely self-absorbed, such that they forget that their responsibility is to the people back home who sent them there. I found this interesting - that the far left detests him as well, but mainly because he bitched about Washington and then promptly went out and entrenched himself in the world of lobbying and sitting on several boards to profit from his two terms in the Senate. https://www.nrsc.org/press/is-this-man-lost-2016-07-14/ I don't begrudge anyone for making money, but to do so by doing the very crap you bitched about with regards to Washington is nuts. It's as if he didn't grasp that one of the main problems with Washington was the lobbying and corporate money - which just can't be true. Fact is, he didn't care and was apparently just in it for himself all along.
