Our Founding Fathers, amongst the greatest of "classical liberals"
held dear, the concepts of individual liberty and the matching trait
personal responsibility. However, their initial effort at uniting the
country was a dismal failure. The Articles of Confederation were too
loose, insufficiently uniting and failed to pull the former colonies
together into a United States. But, these wise liberal thinkers
recognized the error of their ways and drafted an alternative. It was
unique in the history of man. It established a centralized federal
government with strictly limited powers. All powers not directly
granted to the federal government were reserved to the states. In
fact, in order to preclude the excessive strengthening of an "imperial
federal bureaucracy" these wise men identified certain "freedoms" and
"rights" to all citizens. Rightly so, classical liberals of the
future continued to expand the definition of "citizens", but they did
not make any effort to expand the rights and powers of the "imperial
federal bureaucracy". However, the "neo-liberal" strain of
liberalism, has completely lost touch with the core ideas of
individual liberty and personal resposibility and the requisite
political structure of limited federal bureaucracy. In fact, the neo-
liberal strain is rightly labeled as being closer to "communism" as
they believe is the allocation of all wealth ("from those with the
most to those with the least") and massive centralized control of all
aspects of the economy. I do not comprehend where the "neo-liberals"
went wrong, but wrong they are!
PS -- It is not the religious beliefs that are intolerable, but
rather the scum that have usurped the leadership positions.
