I understand that the Tesla sedan will be around 49-57K, considerably
better than the sports car. I have problems with electric engines
because of the battery cost and how do you get rid of the batteries
when you have to replace the one that comes with the car. Also I would
assume that the environmental cost of producing the things would be
rather prohibitive as well. That BMW sounds nice but I would have to be
assured that there is no chance of the hydrogen being driven down rather
than up when it escapes. I saw where BMW says it would go up rather
than down but all it has to do is go down one time and you are toast.

I prefer the advanced diesel engines more than these others. Apparently
they will run on almost anything - corn oil, soy bean oil, peanut oil,
deep fat fry oil and they get better mileage than the Prius Hybrid
does. That little VW that is coming out in the next couple of years
looks good to me although since I live in NYC I don't even have a car or
license now. Doesn't make sense with the parking problems, the
insurance costs, the gas costs and the public transit systems here.
Almost anywhere else in the country the result might be different with
there being no public transportation but here it is ridiculous. I
remember a friend who lived on East 90th St and the parking garage down
the street from him 15 years ago was $400/month. It is more than that
now. Add that to 2500/year insurance and no on street parking and gas
starting at over $3 even for cheap gas ( just saw up the street where
reg was $3.10, medium was 3.25 and premium was 3.47 and diesel was over
$4). Add that all up and you got some real costs. I live in Queens and
as an example there are 7 apartments in my building. I am the only one
without a car. Altogether there are 11 cars here and 2 parking spaces.
The rest of the buildings around here are much the same. What do you do
with the cars then. And they are building 8-10 story apartment
buildings where there were single family homes before which just
exasperates the problem.

I remember my mother telling me that when she was going to college at
Denison in Granville, Ohio, she was taking an interurban train to go to
college every day and she woudl study on the way to school. That was
from 1920-1924. Now there are none. In fact there are not even any
Greyhound buses or passenger trains going there now.
