Holly, We live in a capitalistic Nation-State. The more oil supply, (in theory) the cheaper the cost. Oil is a commodity. If our Nation is producing more oil, it will allow for less imports from the Middle East, (as well as Venezuala, Canada and Mexico).
More importantly, if in fact the Arabs or Chavez in Venezuala choose to create an embargo, or jack up prices, if in fact we are controlling the oil that is produced domestically, then such effects of an embargo would not be as harmful. It gives us leverage, until such time as other technologies can be developed, hopefully in yours and my lifetime. Therefore, it is an issue of National Security that we produce as much oil as possible, yet your "left of center" brethren, and your flat out, "Anti-American Far Left Extremist Socialist-Elitist" brethren, all who comprise the Democrat Party, are opposed to such measures. There is no logical reason for opposing the enhanced exploration of and drilling of oil that is produced here domestically. It is Anti-American to oppose such measures, plain and simple, yet you support a political party that is doing just that.
