Racial firebrand, Henry Louis Gates, returns home to his house in Cambridge and can't figure out how a door works, so he proceeds to try to break it down. A neighbor sees two guys trying to "break in" to the house and calls the cops. His house had a prior break in attempt reported and there were half dozen recent break ins in his neighborhood. When cops arrive to try to protect his home, Gates goes off on them, saying "you don't know who you're dealing with" (always a REAL smart thing to say to the police) and when asked to step outside told the cops to "take their Momma outside." The cops go overboard and arrest him for disorderly conduct.
This is hardly racial. If you challenge police authority they will take it to the limit with you.
