Yes, it did.  The last country to abolish slavery was the Ottoman
Empire (Middle East) who had slaves both black and white right up
until the early 1900's.  The book I read was "Black Rednecks and White
Liberals."  I know, the title is very off-putting (if that's a word).
But before anyone screams RACIST! based on that title, I urge them to
research the author, Thomas Sowell.

They portray us like our Founding Fathers came over, set up shop, and
sent for the slave boats.  That's a flat out lie.  We "inherited" the
slave problem from prominent British colonists, who were to blame for
spreading slavery throughout the western/new world.

Another misconception, that freed slaves only owned other slaves
because they were members of their families.  Another half-truth.  In
1965 in New Orleans alone, many prominent black citizens owned
hundreds of slaves for profit, just like any other white plantation
owner.

I have just started researching this.  I think we should all sue the
public school system.  Picking a book to read on this subject, and
just about every other, is like walking through a mine field though.
Liberals have their fair share of propaganda out there to be sure.
