Their job is to see that the equipment is there and then get out of the way. That is not what they did. The ships doing the work were quite capable of being supplied with what they had to have without the inteference in the work they were doing. After the feds have spent all this time doing nothing, starting to get in the way is exactly the wrong thing to do and that is what they did. The feds kept La from building the berms that would have protected the shores until finally the governor just fuck it and started doing the job. The feds were told 8 weeks ago that there were thousands of booms in Maine available to help and they fluffed it off. The feds were offered help form 13 different countries and they fluffed that off as well. Now the CG is pulling the ships away from their work to see if they have equipment. Why not just say you have to have this equipment, get it and then finish what you are doing. That is what a normal, well adjusted boss would do to see things got accom-plished. Guess that is just too much for the feds to understand - and also way too much for liberals to understand. Believe it or not the general public can walk and chew gum at the same time. THe libs and the feds can't evidently.

What prevented the Coast Guards from boarding the damned barges to 
      check them out?

This would have been a great opportunity for Jindal to show them 
      up. He should ask the Coast Guard how many life preservers and
      fire extinguishers are needed, purchase that amount and make a
      show of delivering them to the boats. (I realize the article
      probably left out some important details.)

While I have a lot of respect for the Coast Guard, they do come 
      off looking bad in this one. How long would it take to actually
      inspect each of the barges and count the life preservers and fire
      extinguishers? An hour, maybe two? So what's stopping them? Don't
      just stop the barges because they don't know if there are life
      preservers on board, go and check!
