MJ, One would think that Jefferson, being the man of conviction that you claim, had no reason to carry his papers of safe passage (passport) on his many foreign forays (especially after his first trip when he was known on site and sight). Yet there he was, papers in pocket and hand every time he got off the boat.
Your argument and your misinterpretation of Jefferson's words hold no water.
