PlainOl,

I do agree that our government should not be in the "marriage" business.
That all contracts between a man and a woman; or a man and a man; or a
woman and a woman, should be "civil unions". That marriage should be only
an ecclesiastical function, and performed only in Churches.

Yes, I do see a distinction between "civil rights" and "Inherent Rights
given to us by our Creator". A more apt way of expressing these terms, or
making the distinciton, would be, "Civil Rights" versus "Civil
Liberties". The First Amendment guarantees our inherent ("God-Given")
right allowing an individual to be free to speak, think, assemble,
organize, worship, or petition without government (or even private)
interference or restraints.

Voting, on the other hand, would be a civil liberty which by the
Constitution, by common law, or legislation, allows the individual "the
privilege" of voting.

In other words, a Civil Right is a Natural or God given Right. A Civil
Liberty is granted by society or government.
