My two most reliable POP/SMTP accounts at "mail1.economy.net", Suisse and
Zurich, which have worked **flawlessly** since I signed up last October,
have suddenly produced, what is for me, an inexplicable error message.
While I realize that different e-mail clients will produce varying messages
for the same error, I am somewhat at a loss as to the interpretation of the
following:

Receive error: "550 not local host unb.ca, not a gateway"

This was the first indication of trouble - the e-mail address in question
ended with "@unb.ca". I have a folder of numerous messages sent to the same
recipient at this address (he is a regular correspondent), all sent through
either Suisse or Zurich without a single glitch, since last October. The
"unb" designation is the University of New Brunswick, not a fly by night
company.

My test message after the failure to send, reported a similar error:

Receive error: "550 not local host zxmail.com, not a gateway" - this was
for "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"

My concern is that the error message may mean that the service will no
longer support sending e-mails using SMTP to recipients outside its own
domains. I tried a test sending from the suisse account to the zurich
account and it went through without any problems. I checked out the Suisse
website but could find nothing indicating a change of policy.

Could someone on the list with, a lot more savvy than I, give me your take?
