WSIX loses its first-place radio ranking

By Brad Schmitt / Tennessean Staff Writer

Country radio giant WSIX fell from first to fourth place in Arbitron radio ratings released yesterday, the first time in at least 10 years that 97.9-FM didn't occupy the top spot.

Particularly surprising -- WSIX morning man Gerry House went from a 16.5 share of listeners (the percentage of people in the Nashville area with their radios on) to an 11.1 share.

But Gerry held onto his No. 1 spot for morning drive, beating out the syndicated Tom Joyner show on urban station 92Q (WQQK-92.1), which scored a 9.1 share.

Overall station rankings and their shares of listeners from 6 a.m. to midnight follow:

WQQK 92Q, 9.8 share; Country station WSM (95.5-FM), 8.5 share; The Rock @105.9, 8.2 share; WSIX, 8.1 share; The River (107.5-FM), 5.7 share; Mix 92.9, 5.4 share; Talk station WWTN (99.7-FM), 4.8 share; Oldies 96.3, 4.7 share; Talk station WLAC-AM, 4.5 share; Country oldies WSM-AM (650), 3.7 share.
