What's wrong? The "-lsasl" statement?

Wrong parameter. Here's the part from the SASL_README:

% make makefiles CCARGS="-DUSE_SASL_AUTH -DUSE_CYRUS_SASL \
    -I/usr/local/include" AUXLIBS="-L/usr/local/lib -lsasl"
