That is in fact what recent main.cf settings do:
syslog_name = ${multi_instance_name?{$multi_instance_name}:{postfix}}
This works exceept for a m mistake in master.cf for the relay service.
Fixed in Postfix 3.10.
BTW I think that Viktor advised against changes that would break
his logfile collation tool.
