Right now it's still a special case being built into libpostfix.
This would it make easier for distro's to make BDB support optional,
and ease the transition.
That would be an invasive code and build change. It can be implemented
in Postfix 3.12, expected release early 2027. I wonder that is too
late to be useful.
I would consider that to be highly useful, it would be in plenty of time
for EL11, so I could keep the implementation compiled in for EL<=10 and
make it an optional package for EL11+
