Fw: What authentication method is the best SASL

I use SASL for remote clients.
What is the best authentication mechanism for SASL security? I use outlook 
express clients.
 
My smptpd conf is:
/usr/local/lib/sasl2/smtpd.conf:
    pwcheck_method: saslauthd
    mech_list: PLAIN LOGINFor courier-imap what is the best authenticated 
method?I want to use without MySQL
