The error is a 4XX error, there is no connection between too many
recipients and any "sender non-delivery notification" (which would
be sent on the client-side in any case).

Given ESMTP pipelining, this is not a good idea. The client will deliver
the accepted recipients, and make a second connection (or more) connection
to send the rest.
