Sorry, there are thousands of Postfix configurations that can fail
with this error, as you can see from the replies where people try
to guess if the problem is with postmap, with Apple's directory
service, and so on.
By you not providing such information, it takes everyone else longer
to solve the problem.

> virtual_alias_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/virtual_users
Look at the last modification time of /etc/postfix/virtual_domains.db.
Does that time stamp correspond with "user unknown" errors?
