To find out if a client is a spambot, I have tried several reply strategies including sendmail's greetpause and spamd's "stutter reply". Postfix uses a strategy that detects more spambots in less time. This is part of Postscreen, available in Postfix 2.8 and later. For early results, see http://www.postfix.org/postscreen-2010.pdf Wietse
